BMDF’s relationships to Venezuela began, in large part, with the work of BMDF past president Dewey Dunn, MD and his wife Bobbie. In past years they have taken several hundred volunteers to Venezuela and through these medical projects thousands of persons have been led to Christ and many churches started.
In January of 2002 a pivotal event took place. A team of health professionals from the BMDF in the US and a team from CMBdeCO in Cuba met in Maracaibo. They joined the Venezuela Fundabrez staff for a month long medical dental missions project! Conversations during the month led to Fundabrez’s invitation to BMDF to consider a formal International Partnership in Venezuela. This was approved in 2005. Tom Young, MD became the BMDF coordinator for the partnership in 2007.
For questions or to be added to the Venezuela mailing list, please email Tom Young or call 641-782-6662 or email the national BMDF office or call us at 405-606-7027.
God is at work in mighty ways in Venezuela. BMDF has an open door to being involved with Him in the work there. Opportunities for prayer and involvement are:
- Vision for healthcare missions to spread from Fundabrez and BMDF to the rest of Baptists in Venezuela
- Members who feel called to be part of a “Friends of Venezuela” network to provide ongoing support for healthcare ministry there
- Collaboration of BMDF with Brookwood Baptist and other churches in Birmingham, AL; the Baptist Health System of Birmingham; and other organizations in ministry in Venezuela.
- Regular BMDF/ Fundabrez joint medical/ dental mission projects in Venezuela and other countries
- Fundabrez collaboration with BMDF in starting additional formal International Partnerships in Latin America
- Health professionals to volunteer to serve in joint medical/ dental missions projects through Fundabrez in Venezuela
