Mobile Health Clinics - Helps

The Mobile Health Clinics Network presents the following:

We are writing to share exciting news about the status of the Mobile Health Return on Investment (ROI) Project.   As we have reported over the past couple of years, MHCN has partnered with Harvard Medical School to develop a National Demonstration Project to prove the efficacy of preventive screening and testing via Mobile Health programs.  With support from Boeing, we are developing two components of the Project ~ the ROI Calculator and Mobile Health MAP.  Following is a brief summary of the ROI Project

The MOBILE HEALTH ROI CALCULATOR

In our respective programs, we have felt frustrated by how difficult it is to demonstrate the value of the services we provide in Mobile Healthcare.  Although we know that the services our programs provide are valuable, we are challenged to show funding sources that this is the case due to the lack of universal research data that supports our belief.  To remedy the problem, MHCN/HMS is developing the ROI Calculator ~ an online data collection tool into which any mobile program in the U.S. will be able to enter its program services data.  The online tool will convert your data and create a calculation demonstrating both dollars saved and quality-adjusted life years saved.  The significance of the ROI is that it will answer the question that we all ponder ~ for every dollar that goes into our program, how much money does our program save the health care system as a whole and what is the impact on the communities we serve?

The MOBILE HEALTH MAP

We are putting Mobile Health on the map!  Using the basic Google mapping platform, we have created an online map of the United States that shows the location and impact of Mobile Health (dental, mammography, and medical/primary and specialty care) programs nationwide.  Your program will be able to register with the Project, log on to the MAP and enter your program's location, service information, and data.  Using data provided by several MHCN members, preliminary results show that mobile programs probably save the health care system an enormous amount of money, reflecting the importance of the health services we provide and our impact on preventing emergency department utilization.

We want to be very clear that we are still perfecting the beta version of the Calculator and MAP and thus, the initial calculations may not be usable.  However, please know that by participating at this time, you will make a considerable contribution toward shaping the future of mobile healthcare services in the U.S.  Be a part of this innovative Project and help us to prove conclusively the relative value of funding for Mobile Healthcare as a preventive care tool and a vital component of our national health care system.
