BELARUS

 The Belarus/ BMDF International Partnership began when a delegation from BMDF participated in the third annual meeting of the Christian Medical Society of Belarus in May, 2003. The meeting was held at the Children’s Health Center “Zhemchuzhinka” just outside of Kobryn, Belarus. Twenty four Belarussian healthcare professionals had attended the meeting of the Polish Baptist Medical Fellowship in September, 2002 at the Warsaw Baptist Theological Seminary. It was at this time that BMDF was asked to send members to Belarus in May. They asked us to provide Bible studies, Christian medical ethics lectures, and a seminar about working with health sciences students.

The Christian Medical Society of Belarus was started by some Belarussian Baptists in the late 1990s. It has always had a strong focus on ministry to students. The leaders are always working on plans to expand the Society’s vision. Ongoing ministry to students at all five health sciences centers is a centerpiece of what they do.

Expanding and enhancing the healthcare ministry of the Children’s Camp is an important priority also. Encouraging local Belarussian Baptist churches to sponsor local clinics in their own neighborhoods is also vital. BMDF has been invited to help with this kind of ministry development on an ongoing basis.

God is at work in mighty ways in Belarus. BMDF has an open door to being involved with Him in the work there. Opportunities for prayer and involvement are:

  • Dentists/ hygienists/ assistants to work in the dental clinic at the Children’s Health Center. This would be one at a time on an ongoing basis.
  • An individual dentist to travel with Fred Loper to Belarus on a needs assessment visit.   
  • Members who feel called to be part of a “Friends of Belarus” network to provide ongoing support for healthcare ministry there.
  • Collaboration of BMDF with the Missouri Baptist Foundation/ Missouri Baptist Home and other organizations in work in Belarus.
  • Equipment for the medical clinic at the Children’s Health Center. Specifically, we are looking for a gastroscope and an abdominal ultrasound.
  • Funding for a mobile medical/dental clinic to be used in local churches in Belarus.
  • Pediatricians/ family practitioners/ nurses to do pediatric physicals at the Children’s Camp each summer.
